Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre – a clear progression route towards fluency 17 September 2008
Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre offers something for everyone who is interested in learning Welsh or improving in the language. Courses range from classes for complete beginners to courses for those who wish to polish their writing skills. Our aim as a Centre is to offer a wide choice. We really want to see people becoming fluent speakers and therefore our programme offers ample opportunities for attending classes more than once a week. We also see it as our role to provide courses in key strategic areas of importance for the language in the area. We therefore offer courses specifically for teachers. In 2007/08, the Centre comfortably exceeded the target numbers set by the Welsh Assembly Government. Our aim for 2008/09 is to attract learners back to classes to enhance their skills, as well as continuing to provide ample opportunities for new learners. No one will learn any language merely by attending lessons. If you want to learn to use a computer, you have to practise. The same is true with Welsh. You have to practise to become a confident, competent speaker. We therefore offer social opportunities for learners to meet with other learners and with fluent Welsh speakers.
