Walking Club

1 December 2008

On a sunny autumn morning 30 people, learners and fluent Welsh speakers gathered outside the Mountain Hare pub in Brynna Gwynion at 10.30 and we were guided by Peter Hatherely. Peter lives in Bridgend and is learning Welsh at Porthcawl College. He is a keen walker walking often with the Brecon Beacons society and he had arranged a 4-5 mile walk along the fields to Llanharan and then up the mountainside to the ruins of Llanbad church. Peter gave us some of the history of the church while we sat and admired the views over the river Severn towards Somerset. We return along a different path to the Mountain Hare.

November we had another interesting walk led by Walter Jones, chairman of the Llantrisant Ramblers. This time we gathered in Coedely before Walter led us up a path behind the village while giving us some very interesting information about the surrounding agricultural area. We also had the opportunity to visit two farmhouses dating back to the 17th century.

The next walk will be on Saturday 13 December at 10.30 meeting at Kenfig Pools.

The group meets every second Saturday of the month at 10.30 and there is a warm welcome to anyone learning or speaking Welsh to join us.
